The Koopmanspolder functions as a testing ground for water management of the future. The everyday grasslands outside the dyke was re-designed by a visual artist. From above, it looks like the vortex in an emptying bathtub. The flexible water level has turned the area into a mix of nature, water, artistic landscaping and recreation.
The variation attracts all kinds of plants and animals. Especially swamp and waterbirds from the IJsselmeer like to seek the secluded polder to rest and forage. Fish-friendly entry points and exits were placed allowing fish to come and go. The Koopmanspolder is accessible from 15 July through 15 October. A shell-trail will lead you from the West-Frisian Omringdijk to the viewpoint at the centre of the vortex. We recommend taking a stroll alongside the dykes.
