Monumental village Twisk is one of the most beautiful villages in West-Friesland. The Dorpsweg, a 2 km long street, is a true gem with gorgeous monumental and iconic buildings. The village boasts 71 authentic Haubargs. The oldest ones were built in the 17th century. Plan your cycling route through Twisk or drive there by car for a hike in the area.
The ribbon-shaped village emerged as a settlement where peat was being reclaimed. It is located on the banks of a creek between Medemblik and Abbekerk village. The houses were built on both sides of this creek. Interestingly, they were built at an angle to the Dorpsweg. The oldest farms have a living area towards the front with a gable and on the other side a section set back with doors leading to the threshing area. The entire village was declared a protected site in 1974. Certainly worth a visit!
