Medemblik is rich in natural sanctuaries too. Discover them by foot or bicycle. Or rent a polder barge or whisper boat. The surroundings make for beautiful boat trips.
Apart from De Vooroever, Het Egboetswater and De Koopmanspolder, there are 2 other water storages worth visiting.
Waterberging Twisk
Apart from storing up to 100,000 cubic litres of water, this area is also part of the ecological network. Protected by the covered mound, you can spot a lot of different birds up close.
De Skoot
Waterberging De Skoot near Opperdoes consists of 3 lakes with swamp areas. This makes for a remarkable combination of vegetation and animals. A trail will allow you to visit on foot. If you’re visiting by bicycle, the West-Frisian Omringdijk will provide a gorgeous view.
The Nesbos, part of recreational area De Vooroever, regularly hosts Kofferbakmarkten (Trunk Markets) which attract a large audience.
This recreational area stretches from from Medemblik to Andijk and boasts 144 hectares together with the Nesbos. You can get lazy in the sun, swim, enjoy water sports and play, cycle and hike. Beach alternates with nature.
A day at VooroeverThis natural sanctuary is part of the old characteristic West-Frisian creek landscape. The ecological banks offer a sanctuary to a wide variety of birds for nestling and feeding. You'll enjoy the forests, meadows and water.
A day at the EgboetswaterThis area outside the dyke is actually a testing ground for future water management. Due to a flexible water level, the area has transformed into an interplay of nature, water, landscaping and recreation.
